After a long AM coffee, I went home and stayed home. No trips to town today.
I cleaned out the tub and refilled it, did some clean-up around the woodshed, and emptied leftover grave from lthe Ford flatdeck.
I cut some plastic and covered the crane truck, after reversing it in the drive in front of the hydro shed so the cab of the truck faces out (in case I have to lift it up with the excavator to get the transmission out). I carried some plywood over there to lie on. Looks like I am ready to start pulling the transmission.
I warmed up the excavator and cleaned the mud from the tracks. I pulled some of the boulders away from the powerline area below the shop site, in preparation for digging the drainage ditch down to the driveway/access road ditch. I still need to pull up the power line and make it visible... don't want to hit it with the bucket.
The snow has turned to slush, and its melting, ever so slowly.
A short day, work-wise. But something got accomplished... and I got a small amount of exercise.

Was feeling quite neurotic all day, possibly the result of yesterday's party fare. In any case, I ended up in town after installing the rebuilt alternator on the (Ford) truck and test driving it. The brakes feel like they are not working right. I am disgusted with the thing, and I don't feel like working on it now.
The town trip yielded more groceries, another visit to my mom, and some time with other folks... the CG and the Japanese lady's boyfriend.
I went to a bookstore to buy children's books, but the place was suffocating. I left without buying anything.
Looked at vehicle shelters. CT wants $600+ for their 10 x 19 unit, and I would like to see one assembled...

Well, I attended the soltice party at 8 AM. I was the first to arrive. Made pancakes for about 20 people, and there was a lot of other food. Many children. It went on and on. I left after five hours.
In town, I probably resolved the alternator problem. The dude put another pully on the unit, and it now more or less resembles the original. WiIl try it tomorrow.
Got my mom's meds... visited with my mom. Chatted with the CG. Bought vitamins.
Almost completely wasted the day on these things... but it was raining or snowing much of the day.. the roads on the way home were deadly. The soil test lab called back, and said they were almost finished.

Heavy rain, fog... but still warmish. In town much of the day, at my mom's. Visited the folks in WIldwood, delivered the wood splitting equipment. Also dropped in on my EHD friend and her mentor on Wilde Road, and chatted as it got rather dark.
No progress on anything today, as it was spent mostly talking. I got invited to a solstice breakfast tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll attend.

Slow start to the day. After coffee, I tried to install the new alternator on the Ford. No luck. Its a different mount. And there is no way I can adapt it. We are back at square one. Monday I will have to rescue the old one and see if I can order the right one.
In town... paid the Shaw bill, bought some groceries. Met with the two caregivers that missed the last meeting. Discussed the holiday schedule.
At my mom's, made cookies. Other people showed up and we drank tea and talked. My mom kept threatening to go to bed. She was obviously tired.
Tried to refill her scrip for the blood pressure meds, but the doc made an error and prescribed the wrong dose. So I came away from the pharmacy with exactly four pills, enough to get her by for two days.

A lot of emotional stuff lately, I don't know why. Maybe its the practice.
In town after coffee to get the alternator bench tested. It failed, and I purchased a rebuilt alternator.
I bought a few groceries, visited my mom, talked to the CG's. An overcast day, but it did not rain. Warmish. Swollen glands in my neck all day. I came home and slept, had a hot tub soak, and am almost feeling "noymal" again. Some kinda bug going around.
Snow this weekend, or at least a big storm coming.
I bought a maul and short-handled sledge as a Christmas gift for my Wildwood friends, but the lady was gone when I arrived. Her father is having health difficulties, and no one knows when she will return from the Island.

Organized a few tools and items for my new friends in Wildwood, then took the alternator out of the Ford flatdeck. I was planning to take it for testing south of town, but forgot to put it in the car. I only discovered this when I arrived at the shop.
Two of the ladies that I was supposed to meet up with at 1:00 PM didn;t show, so I ended up talking to the one that did about herb gardens. So it wasn't a total loss.
In the late afternoon I had a meal at the bakery. Now home, with a mild headache, and feeling disoriented in general. Ready to sleep it off, I suppose.
My niece and bro returned to Toronto, so when I visited my mom the clean-up was underway. Here we go, into Christmas.

The planet, named GJ 1214b, is 2.7 times as large as Earth and orbits a star much smaller and less luminous than our sun. That's significant, Charbonneau said, because for many years, astronomers assumed that planets only would be found orbiting stars that are similar in size to the sun.
Because of that assumption, researchers didn't spend much time looking for planets circling small stars, he said. The discovery of this "watery world" helps debunk the notion that Earth-like planets could form only in conditions similar to those in our solar system.

Why do they still do this?! How can scientists be so close-minded? I realise there must be some limits set for reasons of practicality but come on.
That annoyed the hell out of me in school, when we would be taught that something "is" and found out later that what they really meant is that it was "believed to be." Text books are ridden with this sort of error and i feel it's very significant.

Into town after coffee at the village... got the plates switched from the diesel to the Ford flatdeck, paid my mom's MSP premium for six months... then on to her place to drink coffee and lounge around. Last day for my bro and niece, but I didn't talk to him much. He was busy on the phone with his clients back east.
Eventually returned home after a brief stop at the organic market for coffee, and a short visit to a friend's house in Wildwood to check on the progress of the garden and gardener's hut. I got the tour. And left with a list of things they would like to get...
Knocked the broken wood handle remnant out of the axe head she gave me, ground an edge on it... she has the new handle and wedges. Found an old splitting maul. Tomorrow I hope to find some of the glass blocks so she can install them in her hut. They want to build a wood-fired hot tub, but need a metal tub. I have been thinking about alternatives. A length of six inch stainless pipe would make a nice heat exchanger that could be sealed into a concrete-lined cob tub.
Later in the afternoon I put the plates on the Ford. I snapped off one of the seized retaining screws, and had to drill it out. Put air in the tires, checked belts and fluids, lights, replaced a few bulbs, etc. The alternator is not charging the battery. Tomorrow I must find out why.
I may have to put the diesel in a different spot to do the transmission. It certainly needs a shelter over it. And I still need access to the area in front of the shed to work on other things. I also ran the genset for a while and fueled it up.

Is it wrong of me to give my 26 year old brother a chore list each day?
- He quit his classes a week before finals
- He works like 4 hours a day
- We're sharing a house
- He plays Wii all day
- I work 8-5 and never get enough sleep
It's either get a job or chores, I say.

Four inches of wet snow last night. Slippery roads.
In town to.... escape the snow, pay the crew, visit my bro, get groceries. I hung around so they could use the car. Took the CG home, saw some used windows by the road. Finally got back home by 6 pm.
Perhaps I will re-license the Ford and go and get the windows.

My project for one class is in--woot! And I don't care how horrible it is! Double Woot!
Project for other class is due Friday but ready to turn in now! Take that, bitches!
In other news:
Scott used his mutant power yesterday (knowing when to go to Bookman's in order to find awesomeness) and we spent like $160 on video games. No two games purchased belong to the same system. But seriously, how could I pass up a hip-hop rip-off of Dance Dance Revolution? And Puzzle Fighter Two--did you ever play Toki Toki Boom on Yahoo Games? It's that, with Street Fighter characters. Awesome.

I hitch-hiked into the village this AM and retrieved the truck. It was reluctant, but I managed to get it into third gear and drove it home that way. What a relief. But they are predicting heavy snow tonight. Not great conditions for transmission work.
I had a wild night, with many strange dreams. I wonder what was in the food that I ate at the potluck. Hmm.

I took the truck into the village for coffee this AM, and it trundled in quite willingly. The throw-out bearing was screaching as before. But when I went to return home, the clutch would not disengage, and I could not get the transmission into gear. I had some friends help me roll it back into a parking spot, and left it there.
Tomorrow I will have to attempt to get it home. The tow truck is the last option, I suppose... but its expensive. I don't know how I could drive it without a clutch anyway. In the afternoon I hope to get the car back, and then at least I can bring tools to the problem.
I attended the community pot luck this evening, thanks to my solar cooker friends. He came and picked me up and brought me home again with his 4x4. However, in spite of the generally pleasant nature of the gathering, I was distressed to find an old friend there who pointedly ignored and avoided me. So I have been trying to imagine what crime I have committed that would have brought this on... evidently some time ago, since I have had no interactions with this person for years. Karma...
Snow flurries most of the day, and the roads are poor but passible. Nothing has built up to any extent, but some of the side roads are icy. I drained the hot tub this AM and blew out the lines. Perhaps in a few days I will fire it up again.
Ah, how I would love to go away from here for the dark winter months.
